First Responders Act of 2019 adopted by Broome County Legislature
A public hearing to sign or veto the First Responders Act by the county executive will be held at a later date. The act allows for police and other emergency personal to press charges on individuals who harass them as they work. “These brave men and women take on a difficult, yet critically important job in our community that requires dedication and sacrifice,” said Reynolds in an official press release sent to 12 News. Broome County Legislature Chairman Dan J. Reynolds says the act is “one way” to help show support of first responders. On Nov. 21, an attempt to pass the First Responders Bill was met with protests which led to nine people being taken into police custody.
