LOUIS (NCAA.com), Saturday evening, the Utah Red Rocks’ gymnastics squad came within one event of taking the national title.Headed into the uneven bars, the final event of the Division I Super Six, Utah was in the drivers’ seat, only to be supplanted by Pac-12 rival UCLA.The Bruins’ star performer, senior Christine “Peng Peng” Lee, then went to work. The Toronto native scored a perfect 10 during the uneven bars to net the Bruins the national title, edging out defending national champion Oklahoma 198.0750-198.0375.The Bruins won their 7th women’s gymnastics national title and their first since 2010.Because of their lack of success in the uneven bars, the Red Rocks slumped to fifth place, despite consistently being near the top of the standings at virtually all other times throughout the championship meet.Utah’s star performer was once again sophomore MyKayla Skinner, who posted a team-best 9.9250 all-around points for the Red Rocks. The national title for the Bruins, was their NCAA Division I-record 115th national championship won in school history.
