Except, Top Gun: Maverick isn’t about Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Cruise) climbing the ranks, rather, it’s about Mitchell not quitting his role as a captain at a time where fighter pilots could be replaced by technology, like drones, in coming years, Esquire reported.“I was always asked ‘When are you going to do another one?’ Well, you’ve been very patient with me. I felt like it was my responsibility to really deliver for you,” Cruise said at an SDCC panel on Thursday.Top Gun premiered more than 30 years ago, but Mitchell’s legacy lives on and as the trailer shows, he’s not ready to retire or stop flying anytime soon, Deadline noted.“Maverick you should be headed to extinction,” Ed Harris tells Cruise in the trailer.Cruise replies, “Maybe so, sir, but not today.”Top Gun: Maverick will premiere in theaters on June 26, 2020.More on Geek.com:SDCC 2019: Arnold Schwarzenegger on Why He’s ‘Addicted’ to ‘Terminator’ ‘It Chapter Two’ Final Trailer Teases Pennywise’s Return at SDCC 2019‘Game of Thrones’ Showrunners Are Not Coming to SDCC 2019 ‘Death Saves’ D&D Streetwear: Interview With Designer D…Wesley Snipes Says ‘It’s All Good’ With Marvel Studios’ ‘Blade’ Reboot Film last_img read more
